Missouri Coalition for the Environment
One visual identity across two publications for a statewide environmental nonprofit.
MCE had a logo, colors, and a font, but no real brand system. They needed two very different publications: a State of the Environment Report with more than 100 pages of data and maps, and a redesign of The People's Pocket Guide to Environmental Action, a small handbook that teaches people how to organize in their own communities.
The challenge was to give both one clear identity, serious enough for policymakers and approachable enough for a neighbor picking it up at an event.
I built a visual system drawn from MCE's leaf logo and its blues and greens. The report cover frames a Missouri landscape inside a single leaf, set against a sweeping blue-green diagonal. Inside, section headers, large pull-stats, and clean data pages guide readers through dense material.
For the pocket guide, a tree built from arrows and dots turns "how to take action" into a picture of growth. Numbered, color-coded sections and checklists replace walls of text, so readers can find what they need fast.
